When hung from the gallery ceiling or displayed in a splendidly isolated state, the toy-like machines become objects of both fear and worship.

Ironically, however, they become mysterious idols to be worshipped, even if they no longer function.

Thus, art is established by transforming machines into strange toys.

Burden implicitly sets the artist's cunning against the engineer's skill in handling machines, suggesting that the artist can magically undo the human damage the latter unconsciously inflicted on his machines.
