Golf Ball Development
The display shows the progression of golf balls, from early models to more modern designs. The earliest golf balls were wooden, used from the mid-fifteenth century until the seventeenth century. Then came the feathery, a cowhide sphere stuffed with goose feathers. The gutta-percha ball, or gutty, revolutionized the game, allowing its spread to the masses. Modern golf balls are made of layers of rubber materials, with 2-piece, 3-piece, and 4-piece designs. They feature a core, mantle layers, and an outer cover made from urethane or Surlyn, offering durability and spin control. Dimples on the surface of golf balls are crucial for reducing wind resistance and aerodynamic drag, allowing them to travel farther.
