Daniel Bennett holds a doctorate in Church History from the Catholic University of America, where he primarily studied medieval philosophy and Church Fathers. A native and resident of the Upstate, Daniel grew up a conservative Evangelical. Armed with his parents’ excellent homeschooling, he earned his Bachelor’s in history with an economics minor from Wofford College in Spartanburg. While in school, Daniel deepened his Christian faith but also became deep in history (as St. John Henry Newman puts it), particularly medieval studies. He even got to see some of the remains of the Middle Ages while spending a semester abroad in Europe.
These studies and experiences led Daniel to realize that the same Jesus Whom he sought to follow at all costs was leading him where he never thought possible: into the Catholic Church. He joined the Church while working on a history Master’s at the College of Charleston, where he also spent a lot of time in the Classics Department learning Latin and Greek.
Dr. Bennett has considerable experience teaching online or in person at various educational levels. He has taught or tutored in many subjects, including Church History, Latin, theology, history, and logic. Institutions at which he has worked include Wofford College, Our Lady of the Rosary Classical Academy, and the Classical Learning Resource Center. Daniel has published
articles in Medieval Perspectives and St. Austin Review, and presented papers at many academic conferences over the years.
He has enjoyed hiking since childhood, and continues to work out intensely, building especially on his experiences while playing football at Wofford. Daniel also sings in a men’s choir for mass, and is fond of reading and writing. Amid the hubbub and difficulties of this world, however, he finds great rest in quiet prayer before Our Lord in the Eucharist.
