The Aquinas Lecture at Rosary College
Illuminating the Union of Faith and Reason

April 29, 2025 | 7:00 PM ET

At Rosary College, the annual Aquinas Lecture stands as a testament to our commitment to the Catholic intellectual tradition and the harmonious integration of faith and reason. Rooted in the vision of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the lecture honors the legacy of St. Thomas Aquinas, who is described as “the master of thought and a model of the right way to do theology” (Ex Corde Ecclesiae, §16).

As Ex Corde Ecclesiae further affirms:

“It is the honor and responsibility of a Catholic University to consecrate itself without reserve to the cause of truth… It is in this context that Catholic theology has its place in the University and, most especially, that St. Thomas Aquinas is recognized for his exemplary synthesis of faith and reason.”
(Ex Corde Ecclesiae, §§16–17)

By promoting inquiry into the permanent and universal questions, guided by the doctrinal and moral teachings of the Catholic intellectual tradition, the Aquinas Lecture seeks to:
  • Deepen the Church’s call for “a rigorous and faithful search for truth”
  • Provide a space where reason is elevated by Revelation, not diminished by it
  • Inspire faculty, students, and the wider community to pursue wisdom as a vocation
Through this annual lecture, Rosary College lives out its mission to form minds and hearts capable of discerning truth in a world often shaped by abstraction and fragmentation—renewing higher education through the clarity and coherence of the Thomistic tradition.
