Faculty
Joseph Esparza is a PhD Candidate (ABD) in History at Montana State University, specializing in the American West, the history of science, the history of ideas, and historical geography. He received his BA in History and Geography and his MA in History from California State University San Marcos. Joseph is interested in what it means to live virtuously with the human and natural worlds, and how to view both humans and those in the past as part of a shared human condition in pursuit of the true, good, and beautiful (or distortion thereof), as well as understanding objective evil and subjective human brokenness in the historic human condition. His philosophy of history is based upon an integralist human-ecological and anthropological framework influenced by the Catholic intellectual tradition and Catholic Social Teaching. Additionally, he is a lecturer at Montana State University, is a parish organist, and enjoys living in the West where he mountaineers, climbs, skis, and backpacks frequently.
